We warmly invite you to contribute your interests, opinions and experiences directly to current research projects.

Through your involvement, we ensure that research questions are genuinely relevant to general practice. Your commitment therefore makes an important contribution to the further improvement of patient care.

It’s that easy to get involved – in a way that suits your interests:

General practitioners’ surgeries

FoPraNet-BW invites all general practice and GP-internal medicine practices in Baden-Württemberg to take part, provided they wish to play an active role in shaping day-to-day GP practice and to research issues relevant to healthcare provision. Each practice decides for itself to what extent it wishes to participate in the research practice network.

Becoming a research practitioner

Participation in FoPraNet-BW is linked not only to your own research interests but also to meeting the eligibility criteria (→ link), such as the range of services offered by your practice. If you have any further questions regarding the eligibility criteria, please feel free to contact a FoPraNet-BW site of your choice – We look forward to hearing from you!

Accreditation
For the duration of their participation in FoPraNet-BW, GP practices are classified as „Academic Research Practice“ are accredited by the Faculty of Medicine at their FoPraNet-BW site and receive a certificate. Provided the criteria are met, this status is renewed after five years.

Accreditation of research practices

Clinical research in general practice requires high quality standards and practical implementation options. The training courses offered by FoPraNet-BW specifically prepare general practice research teams to carry out research projects safely, ethically and scientifically soundly as part of their day-to-day practice.

The training courses are delivered in accordance with the Qualification standards of the ‘Research-Ready’ concept of the Initiative of German Research Practice Networks (DEGAM-ForNet).

Applications for CME credits are being submitted to the Baden-Württemberg Medical Association for all teaching sessions.

Scope of the training programme
The Research Ready training programme serves as a common starting point for all research practices and can be completed at one’s own pace, regardless of time or location.

The training course comprises a total of 4 teaching sessions of approx. 45 minutes each and provides the basic skills required to carry out research projects in general practice.

Training format
The e-learning course follows the fictional characters Lina Berger, a medical assistant (MFA), and Dr Adrian Cole (GP) as they join a GP research team.

Dr Adrian Cole, MD

General practitioner

Dr Adrian Cole, MD, is a salaried doctor at a general practice in the Black Forest and would like his practice to take part in FoPraNet-BW. In collaboration with other GP research teams and university departments specialising in general practice, he aims to work towards strengthening and further developing GP care in the long term.

Lina Berger

Medical assistants

Lina Berger has been working as a medical assistant in the practice team for some time now. She is very familiar with the practice’s procedures and the patients. She, too, would like to help strengthen GP care and is looking to train as a research assistant at the practice.

Step by step, participants learn how initial research projects can be integrated into day-to-day practice and successfully implemented.

This multimedia-based training programme combines text, audio and video content, thereby appealing to different learning styles. Integrated quizzes and opportunities for reflection support the long-term retention of knowledge and encourage the practical application of the content.

Training content
The Research-Ready Training covers the following topics:

Additional services
In addition, further training modules are offered on topics such as participation and involvement in FoPraNet-BW, literature reviews or research using registers (optional).

In addition, FoPraNet-BW offers a selection of continuing professional development events, either in person or online, at the various university campuses. These events promote personal exchange between research practices as well as networking with the university campuses within our network.

FoPraNet-BW: Your reliable partner for practical research projects

General practitioners are the first point of contact for the public across all age groups. This enormous breadth of medical expertise makes FoPraNet-BW and its GP research practices an important partner for representative, practice-based research.

Requirements for collaboration on a research project with FoPraNet-BW:

  • Practical relevance: Your research question must be of tangible significance within the real-world context of day-to-day general practice.
  • Feasibility: Study designs and methodology must be conceived in such a way that they can be realistically and seamlessly integrated into general practice workflows.
  • General conditions: An appropriate expense allowance for the participating research practices must be firmly included in your project budget.

To ensure high scientific quality, projects in the general practice setting are closely coordinated between the partners and FoPraNet-BW right from the planning stage. This guarantees a study design that can be implemented in general practice and supports a methodologically sound statistical analysis. Furthermore, early coordination ensures that all roles, rights and publication criteria are agreed upon transparently and bindingly from the outset.
